Believe it or not, all those “Fire AKME” tweets have not made their way to Jerry Reinsdorf’s flip phone.
Despite another underwhelming NBA trade deadline that featured another messy press conference, I’m not sure anyone expected news of a front-office shake-up to break. If there is anyone out there holding out hope, however, the Chicago Sun-Times is here to deliver some bad news.
Joe Cowley reported on Thursday afternoon that Arturas Karnisovas isn’t going anywhere:
“A Bulls source told the Sun-Times on Thursday that there were no plans to remove executive vice president of basketball operations Arturas Karnisovas from his position, and it was a solid bet that general manager Marc Eversley and head coach Billy Donovan were equally as safe,” Cowley wrote.

I have to be honest, I don’t have much to say here. Knowing what we know about Jerry Reinsdorf, no part of me suspected Karnisovas – or any of his colleagues – were on the hot seat.
Does that mean I agree with that idea? Absolutely not. Karnisovas and Marc Eversley have done little to nothing to justify leading this rebuild. As for Donovan, while I have a soft spot for him as a head coach, I can’t deny that moving on from him could make sense as you embark on a youth movement. Nonetheless, this is the same franchise that allowed John Paxson to steer the ship for 17 years and Gar Forman to serve as his right-hand man for 11 years. Heck, I think people forget that Paxson is STILL a paid member of the organization and serving in an advisory role.
Front office changes are extremely rare in Chicago, which is precisely why it felt like such an important hiring process when the Bulls pursued new candidates in 2021. We knew the moment Arturas Karnisovas’ name was announced that he would be in our lives for the foreseeable future. Even after four seasons of mostly disappointment, it will take far more to impact Karnisovas’ job status.
Maybe if ratings and attendance continue to plummet, then we’ll talk …
