Everyone Deserves Blame, Josh Giddey Talks United Center Boos, What Can They Fix? And Other Bulls Bullets ...Middle East

Look on the bright side: There is no way the Chicago Bulls lose by 40 points to the same team a mere 24 hours later, right?

SOMEBODY SAY “RIGHT!”

© Sam Sharpe-Imagn Images Arturas Karnisovas has refused to use the word “rebuild,” claiming that he prefers “transition” shortly after the Chicago Bulls’ underwhelming trade deadline. The front office leader also continued to preach a message centered around respecting the integrity of the game and accepting a potential Play-In Tournament appearance. As embarrassing as all of that is on its own, it becomes that much more embarrassing after a 132-92 loss to the Detroit Pistons. By all accounts, the Chicago Bulls have NOT entered full-blown tank mode … and yet they are still reaching new franchise lows. But, hey, Karnisovas had to evaluate this group for a couple more months before making any other moves! For what it’s worth, even in a world where the Bulls are fully embracing the tank, the loss we saw last night is pretty unacceptable. While the wins may not come, you still want to see a motivated group take the floor or adjustments made. The Bulls’ energy level was low from the moment the ball tipped, and they seemingly refused to make any schematic changes to their offensive approach despite a 20-0 start from downtown. This is why Billy Donovan – rightfully – threw the blame on all shoulders after the game.

“It was all the way around – coaching, playing, everything. It was just bad. I don’t know what else to say about it. We have to own it … There are no excuses,” Donovan said (h/t CHGO).

Accountability was at least a trend in the locker room following the game. Chicago Sports Network’s K.C. Johnson shared some comments from Nikola Vucevic, who insisted he needed to set a more aggressive tone as the team’s veteran. Josh Giddey also didn’t condemn the MANY Bulls fans who filled the United Center with boos throughout the night.

“You heard it. We heard it. Everyone hears it,” Giddey told reporters after the game. “Obviously, we hate that, and every time we come out on this floor, these fans show up and show out, so it’s our responsibility as players to give them something to cheer for. Tonight we probably deserved it. We didn’t give them anything to cheer for. We were down 40 in the first half, and that’s unacceptable.”

As we all know, actions speak louder than words. We can all accept that losses are on the horizon, but that doesn’t mean the on-court product should look that uninspired. Tonight’s matchup against the same hungry Pistons team will reveal a lot about the Bulls’ young talent and how well Donovan can rally the troops.

— Chicago Bulls (@chicagobulls) February 12, 2025 So what do the Bulls need to fix heading into tonight? Well, not shooting 10-47 from downtown would be a good start! Nevertheless, things should start on the defensive end for this group. Detroit got any shot they wanted at the rim, and there needs to be more pride and physicality shown when it comes to protecting the paint. We all know this isn’t the Bulls’ strong suit, but there is something to be said about making the other team feel you and merely putting your body in the right place at the right time. Speaking of which, they lost the rebounding battle by 11. The scouting report should underscore how great this Pistons team is on the glass, so it shouldn’t be a surprise that a communal effort is needed to level this playing field. Three starters – Ayo Dosunmu, Coby White, and Matas Buzelis – combined for only four total rebounds. Against a team like this, that just isn’t going to cut it. The lack of ball movement was another major issue on Tuesday night. The Bulls have had their most success this season when decisively distributing the ball and hustling in transition. Did their overall poor shooting play a role in their 22 assists? Of course, but it was also the way in which they were creating these shots. They settled for A LOT of contested jumpers and repeatedly refused to attack cutting lanes. It was a stand-around and pop-a-shot offense. I vomit every time I look at this first half-shooting chart …
