The BCCI joint secretary position has been vacant since Devajit Saikia's promotion to secretary in December 2024, following Jay Shah's election as ICC chairman. As per BCCI regulations, the vacancy must be filled within 45 days, and the BCCI has scheduled a Special General Meeting on March 1 in Mumbai.
“Notice is hereby given for a Special General Meeting of the BCCI which will be held at 12:00 PM IST on March 1, at BCCI headquarters at Mumbai, to transact the business of Election and Induction of the Joint Secretary of BCCI," the apex board said in a statement.
Devajit Saikia Vacated Joint Secretary Role After Promotion to Secretary
Saikia had earlier vacated the joint secretary role after being promoted to secretary following Jay Shah’s departure. The BCCI has adhered to the mandatory 21-day notice for convening this meeting.

The Champions Trophy will follow a hybrid model. Matches featuring India and one semifinal will be held in Dubai, while the rest of the tournament will take place in Pakistan across Lahore, Rawalpindi, and Karachi.
