February 5, 2025 (JUBA) – Key immediate requirements are the demonstration of political will and provision of funding for South Sudan’s peace agreement institutions and mechanisms, the interim chairperson of the peace monitoring body (RJMEC), Maj. Gen. Charles Tai Gituai said. He addressed the 9855th sitting of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) on Wednesday. “With the extended Transitional Period due to begin in just over two weeks, key immediate requirements are the demonstration of political will and provision of funding for the Agreement institutions and mechanisms,” said Gituai. The Interim Chairperson also gave a detailed status of the implementation of the Revitalised Agreement on the Resolution of the Conflict in the Republic of South Sudan (R-ARCSS). He urged harmonisation of the work plans of the National Elections Commission (NEC), National Constitutional Review Commission (NCRC) and the completion of the unification of forces.
