February 4, 2025 (PORT SUDAN) – The UN Resident and Humanitarian Coordinator in Sudan, Clementine Nkweta-Salami has strongly condemned the indiscriminate strikes which left at least 60 people dead and more than 150 others injured in Sudan. The incident, according to a statement extended to Sudan Tribune, occurred in Sabreen market and several residential neighborhoods in Omdurman on February 1. “I also deplore the appalling reported killing of scores of civilians in attacks in El Obeid and Um Rawaba in North Kordofan State, as well as North Darfur and South Darfur states, between January 30 and February 1,” stated Nkweta-Salami. She emphasized that the attacks were a violation of international humanitarian law and human rights law, adding that the perpetrators must be held accountable. “Such atrocities must cease immediately,” stressed Nkweta-Salami who described the deliberate targeting of civilian areas of Sudan as a blatant disregard for human life.
