The PFL Champions Series 1 ceremonial weigh-in descended into chaos on Friday night.
Usman Nurmagomedov and Paul Hughes are set to square off in the main event this evening in a much-anticipated lightweight title fight.
Instagram - Chad AllanThings got out of hand at the Hughes vs Nurmagomedov weigh-in[/caption]PFL has dubbed the contest ‘Dagestan vs Ireland 2’, with the circumstances of the bout bearing a striking resemblance to those of the grudge match between Conor McGregor and Khabib Nurmagomedov in 2018.
Dagestan’s Usman is Khabib’s cousin and student while Hughes hails from Ireland.
Although Hughes and Nurmagomedov’s hatred for one another doesn’t run nearly as deep as Khabib and McGregor, the tension between the two regions spilt out at their weigh-in as a mass brawl broke out between both sets of supporters.
A video emerged online of the crowd dispersing as fans threw hell to the wind.
According to Bloody Elbow, UFC welterweight Rhys McKee and Paddy McCorry from last season’s The Ultimate Fighter series were in the mix when it all kicked off.
But the scuffle quickly fizzled out and didn’t last much longer than the 30-second clip seen online.
Ahead of fight night, Hughes joined talkSPORT to preview the featured attraction which promises to be a lot more entertaining than the punch-up at their weigh-in.
“I mean we’re 1-0 down to Dagestan right now,” he told talkSPORT MMA of the Dagestan vs Ireland tally after Khabib vs McGregor.
“I’m about to make it 1-1 and I think it absolutely will change on Saturday night.
“I think in the fashion that I’m going to get Usman out of there it’s going to really turn heads.

“Hopefully the younger Irish fighters coming up can look at this and go, ‘Ah, you know what, we are a very small nation.
“‘We don’t have that many fighters, but we can do it. We can do it, for sure’…
“I’m one of those guys where it is hard to pinpoint what I am good at but I always win.
“I’m good at finding holes in people’s games and I’m good at implementing it on fight night when it matters.
“And I am just a competitor, I can find the holes. I know I can do that with Usman, I have heavily studied his game, and I know where the holes are.
“The longer this fight goes and the more that I can drag him into the deeper waters, the more the fight plays into my favour.”
