January 15, 2025 (DILLING) – A faction of the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement-North (SPLM-N) led by Abdelaziz al-Hilu accused the Sudanese army on Wednesday of looting, burning homes, and committing other abuses against civilians near Dilling in South Kordofan state. On January 13, the army attacked SPLM-N positions, briefly taking control of Hajar al-Jawad and Karkarayya before withdrawing to Dilling, the group said. The SPLM-N, which controls parts of South Kordofan, condemned the attack, saying it violated the understanding of humanitarian aid delivery in the region. Arno Ngutulu Lodi, a senior official in the SPLM-N’s civilian administration, said in a statement that before withdrawing, soldiers burned homes and looted relief warehouses belonging to the Samaritan’s Purse aid organization. Army personnel also looted a vehicle, damaged a grain mill, and seized medicine belonging to Doctors Without Borders (Médecins Sans Frontières – MSF) and goods from local shops, Lodi said. He added that the looted items included large quantities of maize, legumes, cooking oil, and salt. The attack confirms the armed forces’ intention to escalate the conflict and destabilize the region, Lodi said. The Sudanese army could not immediately be reached for comment on the allegations.
