This week’s Orange County high school boys basketball rankings.
BOYS BASKETBALL TOP 25
(Records through Sunday, Jan. 12)
1. Santa Margarita 15-3: The Eagles beat JSerra 70-49 in their Trinity League opener. Kaiden Bailey played like an Orange County player of the year candidate, scoring 25 points with four assists and three 3-pointers, Dallas Washington scored 17 points and Brayden Kyman scored 15.

2. JSerra 16-4: The Lions shot poorly in their 70-49 loss at Santa Margarita, for which Santa Margarita’s defense deserves credit. JSerra did beat Orange Lutheran by 10 points last week and is 2-1 in the Trinity League.

3. Mater Dei 14-4: The Monarchs shocked St. John Bosco, No. 4 in the Maxpreps.com national rankings, with a 62-59 win at Mater Dei. Luke Barnett scored 23 points, Demarcus Henry scored 13 points with six rebounds and Evan Willis contributed 11 points. Mater Dei also beat Servite 76-63 last week.

4. Los Alamitos 12-6: The Griffins beat Corona del Mar 73-69 and Marina 102-81 to improve to 5-0 in the Sunset League.

5. Pacifica Christian 13-6: The Tritons beat San Gabriel Academy 62-51 in a San Joaquin League game as their EJ Spillman scored 17 points. They also beat West Ranch 95-70 in a nonleague game. Pacifica Christian is home Saturday against Fairmont Prep in a crucial league game.

6. Canyon 16-4: Brandon Benjamin scored 35 points and Noah Kim scored 20 in Canyon’s 81-64 win over La Habra in the Crestview League. Canyon also beat Cypress 63-61 in overtime in a league game.

La Habra 18-5: Acen Jimenez’ buzzer-beating jump shot got the Highlanders a 56-55 win over Crean Lutheran in a Crestview League home game, then they were overwhelmed by Canyon in an 81-64 road loss.

8. San Clemente 16-4: The Tritons beat Tesoro 62-43 in their South Coast League opener, their fifth straight win since a loss to Los Alamitos in the Orange County North/South Challenge at Tesoro.

9. San Juan Hills 13-7: The Stallions won their South Coast League opener, 68-33 over Dana Hills, and lost a nonleague game, 71-52 to Damien, the No. 19 team in the CIF Southern Section rankings.

10. Crean Lutheran 8-9: The Saints lost a Crestview League game at La Habra by one point on a last-second shot and defeated Foothill by one point in a league game.
