Australia's Test series will be their final red-ball assignment before the World Test Championship (WTC) final. Australia's chief selector, George Bailey, said that Sri Lanka is a challenging and exciting place to tour. He mentioned that the squad has flexibility in the playing XI based on the pitch. Bailey expressed enthusiasm for the opportunity for emerging players in the squad to further develop their skills.

“We are excited about the opportunity ahead for the squad members who are at the start of their Test careers to continue to grow their games in subcontinent conditions where we have a number of important tours in coming years.”
