Bill Belichick has no interest in pursuing any NFL head coaching jobs this offseason, according to a report.
That news was shared by The Athletic’s Dianna Russinni on Wednesday afternoon. Her report says his “sole focus” is on coaching in Chapel Hill and on building the Tar Heels’ roster for 2025 and beyond. She adds that Belichick is recruiting for UNC in New Jersey on Wednesday.
Bill Belichick has no plans to return to the NFL, per sources. I’m told his sole focus is on coaching and recruiting for North Carolina, as he continues building the Tar Heels’ future. He’s recruiting today in New Jersey.
— Dianna Russini (@DMRussini) January 8, 2025This report comes on the heels of the NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero stating that Bill Belichick has been receiving inquiries from NFL franchises since the end of the regular season. The list of franchises, per Pelissero, include the Las Vegas Raiders who count former Patriots quarterback Tom Brady as a minority owner.
Belichick signed a 5-year, $50 million contract to be North Carolina’s head coach last month. Per Pelissero’s reporting, he or his next employer would owe a $10 million buyout if he leaves before June 1, 2025. However, the report says it’s unclear if that would apply to NFL jobs or just college vacancies.
Belichick and his staff have been working hard toward building UNC’s 2025 roster. The Tar Heels have already secured commitments from 13 transfers this offseason. Carolina’s transfer class currently ranks No. 25 nationally, per 247Sports Composite rankings.
