MLB slugger Pete Alonso could end up right back where he started following his free agency stint.

The 30-year-old has spent his entire career with the New York Mets.

Alonso’s contract with the Mets expired at the end of the 2024 season.

The Polar Bear has been in free agency for over a month but has yet to find a new home.

Only Aaron Judge has hit more home runs in the MLB since Alonso joined the league in 2019.

MLB Insider Robert Murray claims the “most likely” outcome is a reunion between the Mets and Alonso next season.

The two parties are working hard to make it happen – but are currently apart on contract length, per SportingNews.

A short-term deal with opt-outs could get Alonso back in Queens, where he would team up with new superstar acquisition Juan Soto.

But a one-year contract would put both the Mets and Alonso in the same situation again next offseason.

Despite a poor start, the Mets enjoyed a brilliant postseason adventure last campaign.

Alonso played a huge role in that run and the organization want him back in the building.

Fox Sports MLB insider Deesha Thosar is adamant Alonso will be donning the blue and orange in 2025.

She argues the Mets “know firsthand how pivotal Alonso’s role was in their 2024 playoff run.”

Thosar added: “David Stearns can try his best to take sentimentality out of the equation.

“But I think the emotional tie to Alonso might just push Steve Cohen to get the deal done somewhere around $130 million for five years.”

Alonso has also been linked with a switch to the San Francisco Giants, the Los Angeles Angels, and the Chicago Cubs in recent days.

While the Cubs are on the lookout for additional offense alongside Kyle Tucker after trading Cody Bellinger to the New York Yankees.

Alonso, a four-time All-Star, was selected by the Mets in the second round of the 2016 Draft.

The Florida native has become one of the MLB’s most prolific long-ball threats.

He was the league’s home run leader during his rookie campaign and last year hit 34 homers.
