Deuel’s wife, Jacqueline, announced her husband’s passing in a post on his Facebook account on Monday, Dec. 23. “At midnight last night Geoffrey passed away and is with Peter,” her post said. “God took my ‘knight in shining armor’ gently.”
Deuel died on Sunday, Dec. 22, while in hospice in Largo, Fla., according to The Hollywood Reporter. His wife told the magazine that the actor was fighting chronic obstructive pulmonary disease prior to his death.
Several years before embracing his role as Dave Campbell on The Young and the Restless, Deuel began acting in other TV shows in the mid-1960s. He appeared on a number of shows over the course of his career, including The Monkees, The F.B.I., Barnaby Jones and The Streets of San Francisco, among many others. Deuel began acting in movies in the early 1970s, with Chisum serving as another breakthrough role. He played Billy the Kid in the 1970 film, which also starred John Wayne.
Deuel “lived a prosperous life distinguished by his notable accomplishments, the love he gave, and the love he received from those around him,” his obituary said. "His kindness, his significant contributions to the acting world, and his caring personality will forever echo in the hearts of the many lives he touched. May he rest in eternal peace, knowing that his legacy will forever remain alive and cherished.”
