Caleb Williams is the reason you should tune in to watch the Chicago Bears every week.
Unfortunately, because the Bears have already been eliminated from the playoffs, we only have two more opportunities to watch Williams suit up. But when we do turn on our TV sets to watch the Bears play in these final two games, just know that Chicago’s QB1 is re-writing the record books as he ties a bow on his rookie season.
Caleb Williams stats and facts as the 2024 season winds down
Caleb Williams‘ 334-yard passing performance in Week 16 against the Detroit Lions pushed the rookie quarterback into rarified air as he joined the 3,000-yard passing club. There have been just 13 occasions in which a Bears quarterback has thrown for at least 3,000 yards, with Williams becoming the latest member. By eclipsing the 3,000-yard passing mark, Caleb became the first Bears QB to do so since Mitchell Trubisky did it in 2019. It’s been a dark time to follow Chicago quarterbacks.
Because I know you’re curious, here are the other Bears in the 3,000-yard passing club:
Jay Cutler (2009, 2010, 2012, 2014, 2015) Rex Grossman (2006) Jim Harbaugh (1991) Erik Kramer (1995, 1997) Mitchell Trubisky (2018, 2019) Billy Wade (1962)That there are just seven Bears quarterbacks to reach 3,000 passing yards is one of the saddest stats I’ve ever come across.
© Mike Dinovo-Imagn ImagesCaleb Williams threw two touchdown passes against the Lions on Sunday, bringing his season total to 19. With his next touchdown toss, Williams will become the 13th Bears signal caller to get to 20. No Chicago QB has reached that mark since Mitchell Trubisky did in 2018. Trubisky made the Pro Bowl as an alternate that season. Since then, the Bears quarterbacking situation has been a sea of uncertainty and inconsistent play. Hopefully, Caleb can change the narrative with his play.
After 15 games, this is what Caleb Williams’ numbers look like:
314/505 (62.2%) 3,271 pass yards 19 touchdowns (3.8 TD%) 5 interceptions (1.0 INT%) 89.3 passer ratingCHICAGO BEARS WEEK 16: Instant Grades | Game Recap
At his current pace, he will finish the season with this stat line:
356/572 (62.2%) 3,707 pass yards 22 TD, 6 INTAll things considered, this is a strong rookie season. To put up these numbers despite the chaos surrounding him is impressive. It makes you wonder what Caleb Williams could accomplish with a competent crew around him.

These are Caleb Williams’ stats since Thomas Brown took over as the lead offensive play-caller:
136/211 (64.5%) 1,486 pass yards 10 TD, 0 INT 100.9 passer ratingAnd this is what those stats would look like extrapolated over the course of a full 17-game season:
385/598 (64.5%) 4,210 pass yards 28 TD 0 INTThat 28-0 TD-INT ratio doesn’t seem sustainable, but I’m not going to be the one to tell Caleb Williams he can’t accomplish that dream.
CALEB WILLIAMS VS. THE NFC NORTH
If you really want to feel good about Caleb Williams‘ trajectory, just look at his numbers against NFC North Rivals:
119/188 (63.3%) 1,352 pass yards 8 TD, 0 INT 99.0 passer ratingSure, the Bears are 0-5 against their divisional foes. But it’s not as if the quarterback is holding them back.
The discourse surrounding Caleb Williams hasn’t always been great. But there is no denying that the numbers he has put up have been encouraging. The Bears don’t have much going for them right now. It is why they’ll start the 2025 season with their fifth different head coach since this site was launched in 2017. With that being said, having a quarterback with Williams’ potential makes me think that the right hire could put a stop to that revolving door of disappointment.
