A relatively significant trade is going down this evening, with the Cleveland Guardians – always active – sending first baseman Josh Naylor to the Arizona Diamondbacks, where he’ll replace Christian Walker, who just signed with the Astros.
The Arizona Diamondbacks have acquired first baseman Josh Naylor in a trade with the Cleveland Guardians, sources tell ESPN.

— Jeff Passan (@JeffPassan) December 21, 2024That is a nice little bit for the Guardians, as Cecconi is a former top-10 system prospect at that MLB/Triple-A border (with six years of team control and an option year remaining), plus the pick is always nice.
Naylor, 27, has just one more year of team control remaining, but he’s hit .267/.330/.465/121 wRC+ over the last three seasons. He’s a good bat, even if his total production (not quite as good on defense) will lag what the Diamondbacks had been getting from Walker.
