The army’s air defences engaged the drones, which arrived in waves at the 3rd Infantry Division base in Shendi, River Nile State, early in the morning. Witnesses reported hearing an explosion and said the drones caused a brief power cut in the city. Shendi is about 150 km (93 miles) north of the capital, Khartoum.
