Valley Springs, CA — Air and ground resources are battling a second fire in Calaveras County today. Dubbed the Brauns Fire by CAL Fire, it broke out around 2 p.m. and is burning in the 3000 block of Highway 12 and Briski Road, east of Toyon Middle School and between Valley Springs and San Andreas. CAL Fire spokesperson Emily Kilgore reports the fire is estimated at 50 acres, but currently, no structures are threatened. The fire is east of Toyon Middle School. The CHP reports closing Highway 12 at the Highway 49 junction. Motorists are asked to avoid the area and find an alternative route.
