The Cubs are active today at the margins, acquiring reliever Eli Morgan from the Guardians and now catcher Matt Thaiss from the Angels. To make room on the 40-man roster for Thaiss, the Cubs designated reliever Trey Wingenter for assignment. Like Adbert Alzolay and Brennen Davis and Patrick Wisdom before him, Wingenter was likely going to be non-tendered at Friday’s deadline anyway, so this just accelerates that process.
