Christopher Ciccone, artist and younger brother of Madonna, dies at 63

Ciccone, the younger brother of pop icon Madonna, at the age of 63 marks a significant loss in the artistic community. Ciccone was a multifaceted individual who excelled as an artist, interior designer, and choreographer. His contributions to Madonna's career were particularly noteworthy; he served as a creative consultant and director for several of her tours and music videos during her ascent to fame in the 1980s . This collaboration not only shaped Madonna’s artistic vision but also established Ciccone as a prominent figure within the entertainment industry.

He died from cancer on Oct. 4, surrounded by his husband, Ray Thacker, Taylor said in a statement.

Born on Nov. 22, 1960, in Pontiac, Michigan, Ciccone was an artist, interior decorator and designer, who began his career as a dancer. He joined the Le Group de La Palace Royale in Ottawa in 1980 before moving to New York two years later to support his older sister's music career as a backup dancer.

The "Material Girl" singer, 66, acknowledged that she and her brother did "not speak for sometime." But she shared they "found our way back to each other" after he got sick.

"I did my best to keep him alive as long as possible," she wrote. "He was in so much pain towards the end. Once again, we held hands We closed our eyes and we danced. Together. I'm glad he's not suffering anymore. There will never be anyone like him. I know he's dancing somewhere."

Madonna’s stepmother, Joan Clare Ciccone, from cancer. The siblings also lost their brother, Anthony Ciccone, in Feb. 2023.

Christopher was an artist, interior decorator and designer. He served as the art director on Madonna’s Blond Ambition World Tour in 1990 and was the tour director for her The Girlie Show in 1993.

He also directed music videos for Dolly Parton, and Tony Bennett in the 1990s.

The brother-sister duo had a falling out which Christopher wrote about in his 2008 tell-all book, “Life With My Sister Madonna,” which became a New York Times bestseller.

Ciccone's death comes fewer than two weeks after the death of his and Madonna's stepmother, Joan Clare Ciccone, from cancer. His eldest brother Anthony died in 2023.
