(QUEEN CITY NEWS) -- Power crews were in the Sugar Grove community in Watauga County Thursday planting poles and working to get the lights back on, but families are just beginning to recover after their homes were destroyed by Hurricane Helene. The floodwaters are gone, but the signs of how the storm’s historic rainfall swamped the community are not. A car swept up in the floodwaters that are now receded sits sideways entangled in trees and other debris off U.S. Highway 321.
