MECCA — Joan L. Peterson, 87, passed away peacefully at her home Wednesday, Sept. 4, 2024, with family by her side. She was born May 18, 1937, in Kinsman, a daughter of Kenneth and Effa Koonce Ogilbee. On Nov. 15, 1953, she married Edward Peterson and together they built a life and family in Mecca. She enjoyed traveling to see relatives, cooking for others, sewing and quilting. She made countless handcrafted keepsakes that her family will cherish for generations. Joan enjoyed her community and loved volunteering as a poll worker during elections, playing Mrs. Claus for the local kids at “Sit with Santa” during the Christmas season and participating in other Mecca Community events like parad
