Venice Film Festival, one of the most prestigious cinematic events globally, has consistently served as a platform for honoring influential figures in the film industry. This year’s festival featured a poignant tribute to Sigourney Weaver, an actress whose career has significantly shaped contemporary cinema. Known for her groundbreaking roles in science fiction and drama, Weaver's contributions transcend traditional genre boundaries. The tribute not only celebrated her iconic performances but also highlighted her role as a trailblazer for women in Hollywood, particularly in genres historically dominated by male actors.

In conjunction with this tribute, the festival screened "Beetlejuice 2," a highly anticipated sequel to Tim Burton's cult classic. The original "Beetlejuice," released in 1988, remains a significant cultural touchstone, combining horror and comedy while exploring themes of death and the afterlife through its unique narrative lens. The sequel aims to capture the whimsical yet macabre essence of its predecessor while introducing new characters and storylines that resonate with contemporary audiences. Its screening at such an esteemed venue underscores the ongoing relevance of Burton's work and the enduring popularity of its titular character.

Winona Ryder, Catherine O’Hara, Willem Defoe, Justin Theroux and Monica Bellucci — grabbed the lion’s share of attention, but there were plenty of whoops and hollers for the other celebrities on offer, including French acting icon Isabelle Huppert, president of this year’s Venice festival jury, and Cate Blanchett, intown for the premiere of her Apple TV+ series Disclaimer.
