Elon Musk's empire moves out of California to Texas

Elon Musk, the billionaire entrepreneur and CEO of companies such as Tesla and SpaceX, has recently announced that he will be moving his empire out of California to Texas. This decision has sparked a debate among industry analysts and experts about the implications for both states and the future of Musk's businesses.

One of the main reasons behind Musk's decision to move his companies to Texas is the favorable business environment in the state. With lower taxes, less regulation, and a more business-friendly atmosphere, Texas has become an attractive destination for many companies looking to expand or relocate. By moving his operations to Texas, Musk hopes to take advantage of these benefits and further grow his businesses.

Musk said that the SAFETY Act, a law California Gov. Gavin Newsom signed that would prohibit school districts from requiring teachers to inform parents if a child wants to be identified by a different gender, was “the final straw.”

California, to Starbase, Texas,” Musk posted on X.

Musk has given money to candidates from both parties in the past, including $5,000 to Barack Obama in April of 2011. He used to be primarily a Democratic donor, but those relatively paltry sums pale in comparison to the amount he is now reportedly donating to the Republican presidential candidate. He has said for several years the Democratic party has moved too far to the left for him to support many of its candidates.

Musk didn’t comment directly on the Journal report, but he did use a meme of people dressed as African wildebeests with the title “Fake Gnus,” suggesting the report was incorrect. And he tweeted soon after the assassination attempt on Trump Saturday “I fully endorse President Trump and hope for his rapid recovery.”

Musk has also said that he has moved his residence from California to Texas, where there is no state personal income tax.

The announcement about X comes less than two years after Musk took charge of the former Twitter social media platform in a $44 billion deal and fired its top executives.  Musk also fired, laid off, or otherwise lost the majority of its workforce including engineers, content moderators, and executives in charge of making rules and enforcing them.

In June 2023, Musk rebranded the platform as X and added a bright, flashing X logo to the top of the San Francisco building which houses its offices. It was removed within days after area residents complained and the city determined there was no permit obtained for the building signage.
