Novak Djokovic showcased his dominance on the grass courts of Wimbledon as he defeated Alexei Popyrin in the third round to advance to the fourth round of the prestigious tournament. Djokovic, a seasoned professional with numerous Grand Slam titles under his belt, displayed his superior skill and experience throughout the match.

Despite facing a strong opponent in Popyrin, Djokovic's precision and consistency proved too much for the young Australian player to handle. Djokovic's ability to dictate play and control the tempo of the match allowed him to secure a straight-sets victory and continue his quest for another Wimbledon title.

Novak Djokovic has delivered an impressive performance at Wimbledon to edging Australian Alexei Popyrin in a high-quality clash that forced the Serbian to produced his best tennis to date since undergoing knee surgery a month ago.

Although the 24-time major champion started slowly in his third round outing against the powerful Popyrin, but the third set he was playing puppet master as he pulled the Australian to all corners of the court in a 4-6 6-3 6-4 7-6 (3) triumph.

Popyrin at January’s Australian Open, reacted well to dropping the opener in the pair’s third Lexus ATP Head2Head clash. The No. 2 in the PIF ATP Rankings dialled in on serve and during the match became Wimbledon/status/1809695450871521453" >just the sixth player to record 1000+ aces at Wimbledon, while his consistency from the baseline was also key to wearing his opponent down.

Djokovic – carrying his Vase Of Injury, and needing to protect it at all costs – produced a necessarily authoritative statement to start, by monopolising 11 of his opening 12 service points. Popyrin almost stumbled with the Vase Of Opportunity during a hesitant hold of serve mid-set, before suddenly cornering the No.2 seed into error for the first break point.

Djokovic failed to put away a smash, and could only watch as 24-year-old Popyrin carved a dazzling passing winner. The Centre Court came alive with a roar of appreciation. Already, Djokovic is out of sight of his peers. There are young tigers who might one day get close to his records, but, to borrow from the late Yorkshire fast bowler Fred Trueman, “they’ll be bloody tired”.

Beforehand, he observed of his torn meniscus: “It has been responding really well. The muscles around it are more sore than normal, not giving me that dynamic speed and power. It has an impact on my movement, kind of late on the ball.
