Euro 2024 Recap: Belgium 0-0 Ukraine

Sport by : (PRESSBEE) -

Belgium face off against Ukraine in a highly anticipated match that ended in a goalless draw. The game was filled with tense moments and strategic plays from both sides, showcasing the talent and skill of the players on the field.

Belgium, known for their strong defense and attacking prowess, put up a solid performance throughout the game. Their backline held firm against Ukraine's relentless attacks, while their midfield controlled possession and created opportunities in the final third. However, they were unable to break through Ukraine's defense to find the back of the net.

Romelu Lukaku had an early effort saved when played in behind, while Artem Dovbyk had a couple of dangerous moments for Ukraine and Ruslan Malinovskyi very nearly scored straight from a corner late on. Malinovskyi had a shot charged down in the closing minutes, before Georgiy Sudakov fired straight at the goalkeeper in stoppage-time. In truth, though, it was a game low on quality, with Ukraine unable to find the goal that would have sent them through and Belgium crashing out.

Domenico Tedesco's Belgium dominated possession in the tight contest, though it was Serhiy Rebrov's Ukraine who had more attempts on goal in the first half.

But the two teams cancelled each other out in the second period as Belgium clung on for a place in the knockout stage.

In the final moments, Georgiy Sudakov embarked on a brilliant solo run. The goal seemed there for the taking, yet his shot from just inside the box lacked power, and once again there was no way through for Ukraine.

Belgium finished second to Romania on goals scored, while Ukraine came fourth due to having the worst goal difference.

On the other hand, Ukraine displayed resilience and determination as they fought to keep Belgium at bay. Their defensive organization and quick counterattacks kept Belgium on their toes, forcing them to work hard for every chance they created.

In the end, both teams walked away with a point each from this hard-fought battle on the pitch. While Belgium may have been disappointed with not securing a win, Ukraine can take pride in holding one of Europe's top teams to a draw.
