The Bodyguard and Air Bud actor Bill Cobbs dies at 90

Bill Cobbs at the age of 90. Known for his roles in popular films such as "The Bodyguard" and "Air Bud," Cobbs was a talented and versatile performer who captivated audiences with his charisma and talent.

Throughout his long and illustrious career, Cobbs appeared in over 120 films and television shows, showcasing his range as an actor and earning critical acclaim for his performances. His ability to bring depth and authenticity to every character he portrayed made him a beloved figure in the entertainment industry.

Cobbs died Tuesday at his home in the Inland Empire, California, surrounded by family and friends, his publicist Chuck I. Jones said. Natural causes is the likely cause of death, Jones said.

He died on Tuesday night (June 25) at his home in Riverside, California, his publicist Chuck Jones told TMZ.

Cobbs won his Emmy in 2020 for Outstanding Limited Performance in a Daytime Program after appearing on children’s show Dino Dana.

Cleveland, he served as an Air Force radar technician and worked other jobs before leaving for New York at the age of 36 to pursue acting. His first professional acting role was in “Ride a Black Horse” at the New York City-based theater company and workshop, Negro Ensemble Company. He later appeared in small theater productions, street theater, regional theater and at the Eugene O’Neill Theater.

Cobbs’ relative, Thomas Cobbs, posted on Facebook to commemorate Bill Cobbs, calling him a “beloved partner, big brother, uncle, surrogate parent, godfather and friend.”

“As a family we are comforted knowing Bill has found peace and eternal rest with his Heavenly Father,” the post read. “We ask for your prayers and encouragement during this time.”

n television, Cobbs had guest roles in series including LA Law, NYPD Blue, Soul Food, Greenleaf, The Sopranos and recent Disney+ Marvel series Agents Of SHIELD. 

In 2020 Cobbs won the a Daytime Emmy for outstanding limited performance in a daytime programme for his work in Amazon’s Prime Video series Dino Dana.
