Manchester United has set their sights on signing midfielder Manuel Ugarte this summer. The Uruguayan player has been attracting attention from top clubs across Europe due to his impressive performances for Famalicao in the Portuguese Primeira Liga.
Ugarte's versatility in midfield, his passing accuracy, and his ability to break up opposition attacks make him a highly sought-after prospect. Manchester United sees him as a potential key addition to their squad as they look to strengthen their midfield options for the upcoming season.
The 23-year-old has made 37 appearances for PSG with whom he won Ligue 1, the Coupe de France and Trophee des Champions.
Ugarte is also a regular international with Uruguay and started in their opening Copa America 3-1 win against Panama.
The defensive midfielder has four years left on his contract at PSG but could be on course to join the Premier League.
The French champions are believed to have interest from clubs across Europe, including one other English club, and are holding out for a substantial fee.
Ugarte despite signing him ahead of Chelsea in a £51m deal from Sporting Lisbon last summer.
Ugarte was a rotation option under manager Luis Enrique as PSG won a league and cup double while also reaching the Champions League semi-finals.
United are looking to reshape their under-performing midfield with Casemiro expected to leave. There is interest in him from the Saudi Pro-League, led by Al-Nassr, which is being encouraged.
Ugarte would be regarded as a direct replacement while Christian Eriksen’s Old Trafford future is also in doubt, with him having been out of the team. Sofyan Amrabat is due to return to Fiorentina after his unsuccessful loan spell.
United are also in the market for a central defender and a centre-forward during this transfer window. They have agreed personal terms with Jarrad Branthwaite and have bid up to £43 million, which is way below Everton’s £70 million valuation.
Joshua Zirkzee. Progress on Branthwaite has been slow with Everton demanding more than £70m for the England defender. Leny Yoro at Lille and Crystal Palace's Marc Guéhi, who has impressed with England during the Euros, are among the other targets.
Zirkzee is one of a number of strikers being considered by United along with Lille's Jonathan David and Brentford's Ivan Toney.
