Real Madrid and Borussia Dortmund are two of the most successful football clubs in Europe, with a rich history of competitive matches between them. The rivalry between these two teams dates back to the early days of European football, and has only intensified over the years.
When Real Madrid and Borussia Dortmund face off on the pitch, fans can expect a display of skill, determination, and passion from both sides. Both teams have a tradition of playing attacking football, which often leads to high-scoring and exciting matches.
Dortmund finished a distant fifth in the Bundesliga this season and few would have given them much hope of reaching their first Champions League final since 2013 when Wembley also hosted their defeat against favourites Bayern Munich.
But Terzic's side stunned Atletico Madrid in a quarterfinal thriller and then provided a tactical masterclass as they beat Paris Saint-Germain 1-0 in both legs of the semifinal.
"We are ready to compete at the highest level," Terzic said. "Maybe if you play 10 times against Real Madrid, it is very difficult. If you play 34 times, it's impossible. But if you break it down to one game, a final, everything is possible.
Unlike Dortmund, who have struggled domestically but excelled in Europe, the opposite has been true for the Spanish champions in the later stages of the tournament.
Manchester City on penalties in the last eight and scored two late goals in the second leg of their semi-final to edge past Bayern Munich.
Real Madrid also got the better of defending champions Manchester City on penalties after the two sides finished the two-legged quarter-finals tied at 4-all.
Borussia Dortmund have endured a mixed season. They finished a disappointing fifth in the Bundesliga but find themselves in Europe’s biggest game on the back of spirited performances in the UCL.
Madrid are the La Liga champions, toppling Barcelona by 10 points, while boss Carlo Ancelotti is aiming to become the first manager to win five Champions Leagues.
He has previously won two in Madrid, alongside a further two with AC Milan.
Meanwhile Dortmund are this season’s surprise package, reaching this final despite slipping to fifth in the Bundesliga, finishing 10 points behind runners-up Stuttgart.
