The third baseman broke his thumb in practice before Washington’s Opening Day game. The Nationals’ 40-man roster is full, so the team will need to make a corresponding move to add Lipscomb. That move could be placing Senzel on the 60-day IL, although a broken thumb doesn’t always necessitate such a long stint on the injured list.
