In a groundbreaking move, Apple has announced that they will be partnering with Google to integrate the Gemini AI engine into their next-generation iPhone. This collaboration between two tech giants is set to revolutionize the way we interact with our devices.
The Gemini AI engine, developed by Google, is known for its advanced machine learning capabilities and natural language processing. By incorporating this technology into the iPhone, Apple aims to enhance user experience and provide more personalized services.
Gemini is Google’s suite of generative artificial intelligence tools, ranging from chatbots to coding assistants.
According to a  report, Apple is in talks with Alphabet-owned Google to let the iPhone maker license and build its Gemini AI engine into the iPhone.
Citing people familiar with the matter, Bloomberg said the two tech giants are “in active negotiations” for Gemini to power certain new features due to be released to the iPhone software later this year.
Microsoft have been in a race against each other for dominance over generative AI — which took the world by storm in 2023 with the introduction of OpenAI's ChatGPT. The technology has since captured the attention of businesses and users alike, and has already begun to reshape work and entertainment, raising concerns from lawmakers and tech companies alike over AI's rapidly evolving impact on society itself. 
For now, tech giants Google and Microsoft are trying to get the upper hand on the market, something which a partnership with Apple could be key to achieving. 
 OpenAI and has considered using its model, according to the sources cited by Bloomberg.
However, the report said, “the two parties haven’t decided the terms or branding of an AI agreement or finalized how it would be implemented.”
Apple CEO Tim Cook said last month that the company was investing "significantly" in generative AI and would reveal more about its plans to put the technology to use later this year.
The Bloomberg report said Apple was planning to use its own homegrown AI models for some new capabilities in its upcoming iOS 18, but was seeking a partner to power genAI features, including functions for creating images and writing essays based on simple prompts.
