Karachi: After much delay, the Sindh government has finally launched the system of issuing a smart card carrying security features for registration of motor vehicles across the province. The new system will replace the decades-old one of a registration book used for manual registration of motor vehicles. The chip-based smart card will be used to register commercial and private vehicles, including two-wheelers and four-wheelers. Both new and old vehicles will be issued the new smart card. Owners of the old vehicles possessing the manual registration books will be given the option of switching to the new smart card. The new system is backed up by a computer database of the vehicles.
