The accident occurred in the 1100 block of University Avenue at about 10:30 a.m., according to the San Diego Police Department. Paramedics took the victim to nearby Scripps Mercy Hospital for treatment of serious injuries, SDPD public-affairs Officer Scott Lockwood said. Police shut down the eastbound lanes of the street between 10th Avenue and Vermont Street to allow investigators to document the scene of the accident.
