January 30, 2024 (FANGAK) – The international medical charity, Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) has launched a mass Hepatitis E vaccination campaign to reach remote communities and prevent more deaths in Jonglei State’s Fangak County. MSF, in a statement extended to Sudan Tribune on Monday, said the campaign was launched in collaboration with Health ministry to protect women and girls of reproductive age, who are at greatest risk of death from the deadly disease. Since April 2023, 501 cases of hepatitis E have reportedly been treated at the MSF hospital in Old Fangak, Jonglei State, and 21 people – mainly women – have died.
