Ralph Cirella died on Tuesday at 58 after being treated for a rare form of lymphoma.

Howard Stern announced the death of his longtime friend and stylist on his SiriusXM radio show, The Howard Stern Show, on Wednesday morning. Stern, 69, added that Cirella was undergoing a procedure when his “heart gave out.”

“Ralph was a trustworthy, dear friend who made me laugh every time I was with him,” the host said.

The episode was a tribute to Cirella, who Stern knew for four decades and who had appeared on the show several times in the past. Stern revealed that he had spoken to his late friend the night before he passed, where the two discussed the “curable and treatable” cancer and had hope for the future.

He also voiced his frustrations over the circumstances of the loss, saying, "Ralph developed an illness, but I really feel he got involved a little too late because the illness he got was curable and was treatable, but he had some complications of waiting too long, and I got very upset with him.”

"I think this is the toughest part of loving someone — when you lose them," Stern said during Wednesday's episode, largely devoted to stories about Cirella's life and their enduring friendship. "Lord knows I loved Ralph."

He continued, “I was not ready for Ralph to go. I was not expecting Ralph to die.”

Howard Stern’s wife, Beth, liked Stamos’ Instagram post before her husband’s radio show began. Until then, many fans wondered if Stamos had been hacked and the death wasn’t real.

“Ralph wasn’t just a friend; he was family,” Stamos said.

Cirella was a frequent caller and guest on Stern’s show. He would share stories of his exchanges with fellow Stern show staffers and also weighed in on pop-culture topics including movies, TV and technology.

Actor John Stamos, also a friend of Cirella, posted a lengthy tribute on Instagram, calling Cirella “without a doubt, a one-of-a-kind soul.”

“My heart aches at the thought of Ralph Cirellad eparting this world alone,” Stamos writes, “without ever experiencing the deep love he undeniably deserved. In our final exchange, I shared a story about someone who called me lucky. When I asked why, their response was simple and profound: ‘Because you’re friends with Ralph from the Howard Stern show.’ And they were absolutely right.”
