Daryl Hall has filed a restraining order against his one-time musical collaborator, John Oates. The pair made up the pop rock duo Hall & Oates, and put out 18 studio albums together between 1972 and 2006.

Hall filed the temporary restraining order request in a Nashville Chancery Court on Nov. 16. Oates and the co-defendants – his wife, Aimee J. Oates, and business manager Richard Flynn, who are both co-trustees of his trust – were served on Nov. 20.

It is unclear what promoted the restraining order, but it is labeled as a Contract/Debt case on the website for the Nashville Chancery Court. CBS News has reached out to Hall's attorney as well as Flynn for further information, and is awaiting a response.

Hall & Oates are embroiled in a confidential legal battle that has led to Daryl Hall getting a restraining order against his former music partner John Oates.

Little information about the lawsuit is publicly available, as the court documents are sealed, but based on court records, Hall filed an undisclosed complaint against Oates on Nov. 16, as well as a motion for a temporary restraining order, as reported by Philadelphia magazine. The following day, the court officially issued a temporary restraining order to begin Nov. 30.

The Nashville Chancery Court confirmed the existence of the lawsuit to Variety, but declined further comment because the lawsuit is sealed.

Bill Maher” last September, Hall said he and Oates “are brothers, but we are not creative brothers.” He added that the two “are business partners” who made records together, but that “we’ve always been very separate, and that’s a really important thing for me.”

Their representatives and Hall's attorney did not immediately respond to requests for comment.

The pair met while they were attending Temple University in Philadelphia, according to their website Together, they have recorded 21 albums, and they were inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 2003 and the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 2014.

The pair have also embarked on careers as solo artists but never officially split up, and both are on their own tours.
