Miss Universe at the culmination of the annual beauty pageant, which took place on Saturday night in El Salvador’s capital, San Salvador. Anntonia Porsild of Thailand placed as first runner-up.
The winners of 84 countries’ national pageants had competed at this year’s Miss Universe, judged by a panel including model Halima Aden, “Queer Eye” star Carson Kressley, TikTok influencer Avani Gregg and two former Miss Universe winners, Janelle Commissiong of Trinidad & Tobago (Miss Universe 1977) and Iris Mittenaere of France (Miss Universe 2016).
Organizers announced mothers and married women could enter the competition in August 2022, while transgender contestants were permitted to compete in April 2012. In recent years, there have also been calls for Miss Universe to become more body-inclusive.

Sheynnis Palacios, who became the first Nicaraguan woman to win the title.
The Nicaraguan model, community developer is no stranger to pageants. She previously held the title of Miss World Nicaragua 2020.
Palacios is a native of Managua, Nicaragua. She studied at the Universidad Centroamericana, pursuing a degree in mass communication. At the same time, she played varsity volleyball for the university.

Asked in the final round who she would choose to spend a day in the life of, Palacios chose the 18th-century British philosopher and feminist Mary Wollstonecraft, who she said broke boundaries and “gave an opportunity to many women.”
“There are no limitations for women today,” she added, via a translator.
Her winning response that helped her clinch the title was: "I would choose Mary Watson-Brad because she opened the gap and gave an opportunity to many women... And what I would do, I would want that gap, that income gap, would open up so that women could work in any area that they choose to work in because there are no limitations for women. That was 1750. Now, in 2023, we're making history."
