Editor’s note: The following guest editorial ran in this newspaper on Dec. 11, 1983 just after the opening of the Plowshares Dining Room on Nov. 15, 1983.  We are rerunning it today in honor of this critical organization’s 40th anniversary. by Ann Near Ann Near came to Potter Valley with husband, Russell, in 1947, and had a cattle ranch On the old Bonnifield place. Later they moved to Ukiah where their four children were reared. The family now resides in Hopland. She has long been active in community activities.
