Huskieswin over Utah 35-28

It isn’t just Washington’s defense that makes it tough to score against. The Panthers' offense plays pretty good defense in its own right.

Ball control, clock management and a stout, old-school run game led to five offensive touchdowns for Washington. Its defense accounted for two more in a 59-16 Class 6A quarterfinal win over Chatham Glenwood on Saturday.

football team, tough kids, great defense, great offense,” Glenwood coach David Hay said of Washington. “Coach (Darrell) Crouch is obviously running a great program, and I wish him the best of luck.”

On Saturday afternoon, the place produced a game filled with plenty of turbulence followed by smooth sailing —that is, depending on which side you were on and when — and the University of Washington football team finally buckled in, rode out the bumps and touched down with a 35-28 victory over Utah.

Bryson Barnes pass and rumbled 76 yards with a clear path to the end zone and a two-score lead — only to squander a sure touchdown when he absentmindedly thought he had scored and let go of the ball on the 1 for a fumble.

"It's a little hard," fellow UW linebacker Carson Bruener said. "He's definitely going to feel it for a little bit. I talked to him earlier and he said, 'I dreamed of this scenario to get a pick-6,' and he had it in the bag. It's a football game. Things happen."

Despite a persistent wind blowing off Lake Washington, Barnes broke through — and his teammates broke tackles.

But soon enough, the wind shifted in favor of Washington.

“I do think the staff did a nice job of trying to narrow [the defensive playbook] down and get the guys back to where they’re confident out there very quickly,” DeBoer said. “You saw that happen in the third quarter.

“That’s belief in what we’re doing, both ways — coaches to players, players to coaches. You could feel it in the locker room. Once they regrouped, it was time to go back out there and have that 1-0 mindset we talk about. They executed.”

Oak Lawn Richards in the second round, managed just 182 yards of offense. Knoedler was 12-of-26 with 173 yards, two interceptions and two touchdowns. The No. 6 Titans (8-4) had negative rushing yards until Micah Grussenmeyer put Glenwood in the black with 16 yards after the running clock was initiated.
