Godzilla Minus One dropped Friday morning, and in the clip, we get a closer look at the awesome scale of the iconic kaiju that’s wreaking havoc in post-war Japan.
The 37th installment in Toho’s long-running monster franchise, the film — which closed the Tokyo International Film Festival — is a period piece and shows Godzilla appearing as Japan struggles to recover after WW2.

Godzilla Minus One goes on to establish this figure as “an unknown organism,” as citizens try to reckon with what could possibly be destroying their city to this extent. The final moments show Godzilla's scales growing blue, seemingly charging an attack, but it doesn't look like the creature's famous atomic breath.
It comes alongside the “Monarch: Legacy of Monsters” series premiering shortly on Apple TV+ along with the feature “Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire” hitting cinemas in May next year.
Yuki Yamada, Munetaka Aoki, Hidetaka Yoshioka, Sakura Ando and Kuranosuke Sasaki star in the film.
“Godzilla Minus One” will get a U.S. theatrical release on December 1st which includes an IMAX release.
Horror afficionados know that the idea of the monster is usually a lot scarier than what any monster designer can think up. The horror comes with not knowing what's coming, and the new Godzilla Minus One trailer really captures that fear, though it dispels some of it too.
Kaiju stories demand scale, and there's no better way to take advantage of that than to show a kaiju that can't even fit on a movie screen. Today's Godzilla Minus One trailer really leans into this storytelling tool by showing terrifying shots of a bit of Godzilla's back moving beneath a huge ship, a giant foot crushing part of a city, the outline of a face just barely peeking out from a cloud of debris.No other kaiju appear in the teaser, though we have it on good authority that at least one othermonster will show up in the movie (
