Dolphins was selected as HBO's in-season 'Hard Knocks' team in 2023

NFL world will get a behind-the-scenes look at Tua Tagovailoa and Miami Dolphins later this season: They will be the featured in-season team on "Hard Knocks" this fall.

The team announced its featured role on the long-running HBO and NFL Films show on Monday.

The Dolphins will be the third team to be featured on the in-season version of the show, joining the Indianapolis Colts and Arizona Cardinals. Miami was featured on the training camp version of "Hard Knocks" in 2012.

Mike McDaniel commented on his team's involvement while meeting with local media Monday. He admitted that it wasn't necessarily the Dolphins' choice to participate, but he can see the value in how the show will help bridge the gap between the team and its fans.

The Dolphins have scored a league-leading 240 points through seven games. No other team has even reached the 200-point mark. Miami has the No. 1 offense in yards of total offense per game (462.3), the top-ranked passing offense (300.0 yards per game) and No. 1 rushing offense as well (162.3 yards per game). The Dolphins' offensive dominance was on full display in Week 3, when McDaniel's squad coasted to a historic 70-20 victory over the Denver Broncos. That week, the Dolphins became the first team in NFL history to record five passing touchdowns and five rushing touchdowns in a single game.

Hard Knocks" began Nov. 9 and ran every Wednesday through Jan. 11 with the exception of the Cardinals' bye week.

The Dolphins' bye week this season is scheduled for Nov. 12 after the game against the Kansas City Chiefs in Germany on Nov. 5.

Coach Mike McDaniel appeared reserved about the decision but admits he thinks the mental strength of this team can endure the distraction mid-season.

"I think it's more of, as a football coach, there's enough distractions that you have to overcome just in general. It's just the world that we live in and trying to get an entire team move in one direction. So I think that's that's the immediate resistance," McDaniel said in his day-after-the-game press conference.

"The decision, you know, was kind of made for you that you're worried about some of the some of the football competitive advantages leaving the building and being more accessible," he added.
