Game Recap: Patriots win over Bills (29-25)

Sport by : (PRESSBEE) -

Buffalo Bills lost 29-25 to division rival New England in Foxborough Sunday afternoon, snapping a four-game winning streak over the Patriots dating back to 2021.

The game went down to the wire, with the Bills surrendering their three-point lead with under 15 seconds remaining in regulation.

After trailing for most of the game, Allen put together back-to-back touchdown drives and took their first lead of the game.

Jordan Poyer punched the ball out of receiver Kendrick Bourne's hands and Terrel Bernard scooped it up to set the Bills up deep in Patriots territory.

While the Bills were coming off scoring just seven points in the first three quarters of the last two games combined, the New England Patriots defense came into Week 7 allowing 25.3 points per game (ranked 24th coming into Week 7). Quarterback Josh Allen had thrived against the Patriots in recent years, with 18 touchdowns, two interceptions and a total QBR of 81.6 in the past seven meetings.

Dawson Knox that was picked off with relative ease by safety Jabrill Peppers.

The play was a sign of the offensive struggles to come, with the Bills scoring only three points in the first half and 10 in the first three quarters in what became a 29-25 loss. The offense showed life in the fourth quarter with 15 points scored in just under four minutes, but it was too late to change the outcome.

Allen and the Bills didn’t show any urgency or ability to score at-will until there were less than six minutes left in regulation. It can’t continue. It’s not sustainable. And much of today’s loss needs to be laid at the feet of Josh Allen. We were told by Allen that his shoulder injury wasn’t bothering him, and believed that all would be fine and explosive in Massachusetts. Things were anything but fine. It appeared to me at one point as though Allen’s shoulder was a big problem for him. He missed plenty of throws, mainly on long passes, and he made poor reads in key situations. When he was offered a helping hand up from the grass during the third quarter, Allen’s body language getting up was a dead giveaway to the pain he’s enduring.

The Bills will travel back to Orchard Park ready to begin a short week, with a Thursday Night Football game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers just days away.
