Carolina was activated because of reports at the Student Union of a person who brandished a weapon. UNC Police reported no shots fired. The situation was related to a personnel matter for one of our auxiliary units.
We issued an “all clear” message to campus at approximately 2:10 p.m. Law enforcement has determined there is no longer an immediate threat to campus, and a suspect is in custody. UNC Police are working closely with Chapel Hill Police Department to gather information and continue their thorough and professional response.

Chapel Hill Police Department arrested Mickel Deonte Harris in the 300 block of Formosa Lane on an outstanding order for arrest. Charges are pending regarding today’s incident.

Police said, "Harris was being sought in connection with an incident on UNC-Chapel Hill’s campus earlier this afternoon. UNC-Chapel Hill is leading the investigation of today’s incident."
On Aug. 28, the alert was issued after a student allegedly shot and killed his professor.
University of North Carolina graduate student Tailei Qi has been charged and indicted with killing Associate Professor Zijie Yan in Caudill Labs.
The gun allegedly used by Qi has yet to be covered, according to UNC police.
UNC students have expressed frustration and outrage and how the school handled communication, the alerts and release of information.
