Mauricio Pochettino has vowed to call Dele Alli and try and ‘help’ get his career back on track, a year and six months on from leaving Tottenham.New Chelsea boss Mauricio Pochettino says he is planning to contact Dele Alli in a bid to help turn the former Tottenham midfielder’s fortunes around.

Alli, 27, thrived under Pochettino at Spurs, earning himself a reputation as one of the brightest young talents in football as well as a call-up to the England squad.

Last season, Dele went on loan to Besiktas where once again he struggled for minutes. And, he ultimately ended his spell there after an alleged fallout with manager Senol Gunes.

Tottenham, mostly under Pochettino. Between 2015 and 2022, the midfielder netted 67 goals in 269 appearances while earning 37 caps for England.

In particular, the Argentinian will be hoping to get a tune out of last season’s pricey signings, with Enzo Fernández, Mykhaylo Mudryk, Raheem Sterling and Marc Cucurella having all struggled for form at various points in their short Chelsea careers.

Dele, who he coached during both of their times at Spurs.

Once widely regarded as one of the finest up-and-coming talents in England for some time, the subject of midfielder Alli’s fall from grace has of course been discussed ad nauseam over the course of the last couple of years.

The 27-year-old has returned to pre-season training at Everton, after a disappointing loan spell at Besiktas, but it remains to be seen whether he has any part in Sean Dyche’s plans at Goodison Park.

Dele played only 13 times in Istanbul and saw his temporary stint cut short in April due to a hip injury that required surgery, returning to Everton for rehabiliation as he hopes to prove himself to current Toffees boss Sean Dyche.

Dele has returned to pre-season training at Everton, but it remains to be seen whether he has any part to play in Sean Dyche’s plans at Goodison Park. The Toffees boss has said of having an enigmatic talent at his disposal: “There isn’t anything other than getting him fit. I’ve heard all the noise, I’ve heard all the opinions and I’m pretty sure you’re aware that I like to make my own. But he needs to get fit. I’ve met him but I haven’t seen him train, I haven’t seen him play for Everton, I haven’t seen him train with us every day.”
