Oman’s Ministry of Health has started the construction of 11 new hospitals across a number of key governorates, in order to develop the health sector and keep pace with the demands of the nation’s rapidly-growing population. Jamal Salim Al Shanfari, Director General of Projects and Engineering Affairs at the Ministry of Health, explained that the projects under way include the new Al Suwaiq Hospital in North Al Batinah Governorate (with a capacity of 307 beds; to be completed in 2024) and the new Sultan Qaboos Hospital in Salalah, Dhofar Governorate, which is expected to be completed in 2025. He added that the new Khasab Hospital in Musandam Governorate (164 beds) is planned to open in 2024.
